Workers Strike Gas Line Near Braselton Hwy During Rush Hour (Update)
The gas leak was reported after 4 p.m. Monday in nearby Hoschton. The road was closed for more than 3 hours.

Braselton Highway near Hoschton was closed for more than three hours through the afternoon commute after a construction crew punctured a natural gas line while digging Monday.
The leak in the 4590 block of Braselton Highway, coming from a 4-inch gas line, closed the highway between Hog Mountain Road and Quail Point until around 7:30 p.m. Gwinnett firefighters first responded to the scene at 4:19 p.m.

Police were called in to assist traffic control, diverting vehicles onto Mineral Springs Road while the leak was being worked on.
An emergency crew from Buford Gas was able to stop the leak at 6:55 p.m., Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in an evening media update.

“The gas company had to dig in separate locations to stop the leak,” Rutledge said. “Firefighters deployed a hose line on the ground to protect gas company workers and nearby exposures. Firefighters also monitored gas readings and established a hot-zone perimeter. There were no gas readings found in a nearby subdivision and no evacuations were necessary.”
The scene was turned over to Buford Gas for repair.
