2 Men Sentenced To Prison In Suspected DeKalb Murder-Robbery: DA
The D.A. said the men lured a man to their home, killed him, hid his body in their basement, stole his property and fled to Puerto Rico.
DECATUR, GA — A 28-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to life in prison after the district attorney's office said he and another man lured someone into a false drug deal with the intention of robbing the person in August 2020.
DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston's office said Friday that Dwayne Brewer was convicted Thursday of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, robbery by force, false imprisonment, three counts of tampering with evidence, concealing the death of another and first-degree burglary.
A news release from Boston's office identified Carlos Ivey, 27, as Brewer's co-defendant and said Ivey lured 29-year-old Andrew Keegan to a Shadowridge Drive home he shared with Brewer and a third person.

The pair was accused of robbing Keegan under the guise of buying drugs, according to the release. When Keegan arrived at the home by motorcycle, Ivey and Brewer were accused of attacking Keegan, hitting him with a hammer and suffocating him to death.
The two men were accused of then hiding Keegan's body in the basement of their home until the third roommate went to sleep. They drove Keegan's body to a nearby park and buried it "in a shallow grave in a wooded area, concealing his death for five months," the release said.

"Surveillance footage from a neighbor was crucial to solving the case and showed Defendants Brewer and Ivey leaving multiple times in the early morning hours of Aug. 17, 2020 to dispose of evidence and Keegan’s body," the release said.
The next day, Ivey and Brewer were accused of going to Keegan's North Candler Street apartment to steal drugs and about $20,000, the release said.
Three days later, surveillance video captured a U-Haul that Brewer had rented arriving at his home and recorded the sound of a motorcycle being loaded onto the truck, the release said.
Gwinnett County Police on Aug. 21 found the motorcycle hidden with the tag removed in some brush. According to the release, Ivey and Brewer traveled that same day to Tybee Island, and during their Aug. 23 return to Atlanta, they disposed of Keegan’s stolen safe, shotgun and pistol.
Divers eventually found the safe in Magnolia Springs State Park, the release said.
Ivey and Brewer were ultimately arrested on Oct. 4, 2020, in Puerto Rico and were extradited, the release said.
DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Stacey Hydrick sentenced Brewer to life in prison plus 90 years.
Ivey pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter, robbery by force, concealing the death of another and first-degree burglary on March 10, 2021 and received a sentence of 30 years to serve in prison, the release said.
