1. Decatur approves facilitator for new homelessness task force (decaturish.com) — Decatur's City Commission has hired a national firm to guide a new 30-member homelessness task force that will shape future policies, funding priorities, and services through 2027. Commissioners also approved liquor licenses for two downtown businesses and expanded funding for the South Columbia Drive multi-use path to preserve trees and address unmarked graves near Legacy Park.
2. Decatur Schools hires new Chief of Safety and Technology (decaturish.com) — City Schools of Decatur has hired veteran technology leader Hoke Wilcox as its new chief of safety and technology services, with his first day set for Oct. 12. Wilcox brings more than 30 years of experience, including overseeing digital safety tools and major tech systems in Fulton County Schools, and will join Superintendent Gyimah Whitaker's cabinet.
3. Philadelphia man convicted of Decatur murders (thechampionnewspaper.com) — A man has been sentenced to life without parole plus 10 years for killing two people at an extended stay motel in unincorporated Decatur in 2024. DeKalb County investigators tied him to the shootings through witnesses, surveillance video, and prior police reports before arresting him in Florida.
