Avondale's Willis Park Open A Few Days Early

The renovated park had been scheduled to re-open to the public on April 18.

AVONDALE ESTATES, GA -- A renovated Willis Park is now open to the public, Avondale Estates officials announced Thursday.

The park had been tentatively scheduled to re-open after refurbishment on Monday, April 18.

Renovations at the popular park began last year.

It sits next to The Museum School off of Dartmouth Avenue and has, at times, been blocked entirely to pedestrian traffic during the renovation.

New playground equipment, benches, swings, pathways and a new pavilion are now fully accessible, the city said in an email.

However, a playing field will remain fenced off for an additional 30 days so sod there can fully establish.

A grand opening and ribbon-cutting for Willis Park is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Details of the event are still being planned and will be announced, the city said.
