13-Year-Old Arrested After Boy Shot Outside Of DeKalb Skating Rink: Reports

D'Mari Johnson was shot on April 10 outside of the Golden Glide skating rink in Decatur, according to police.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to the shooting of a child outside of a skating rink, according to reports.

On April 10, the 11-year-old boy, identified as D'Mari Johnson by DeKalb County police, was shot in the head outside of Golden Glide skating rink, which is at 2750 Wesley Chapel Rd. in Decatur. The boy was last reported in critical condition and the family offered a $10,000 reward Monday for information leading to an arrest.

According to WSB-TV, the 13-year-old was taken into custody around 8 a.m. Thursday. Police are not identifying the suspect because he is a child. No charges have been announced yet.

DeKalb County Police Chief Mirtha Ramos said that the motive isn’t clear, reported WAGA-TV.

In a statement to WAGA-TV, the attorney for Johnson's family said that they were thankful the teenager had been identified and arrested.

"The family extends its gratitude to the DeKalb County Police Dept. and the other agencies who assisted them in their investigation of this horrific crime," Shean Williams said in the statement to the news station "We are saddened that a 13-year-old could allegedly perpetrate such a heinous act."
