Boy, 4, Shoots Himself With Gun Left In Car, Dies: DeKalb Police
A four-year-old boy accidentally shot himself with a gun left in the car, while his mother was inside a business, according to police.
DEKALB COUNTY, GA — The four-year-old boy who was shot and killed Sunday in a Publix parking lot accidentally shot himself, according to the DeKalb County Police Department.
Miyell Hernandez was sitting in the car at 5 p.m. with an infant and 13-year-old relative while his mother went into a business at 3045 Panola Road, police said. Shortly after, the boy accidentally shot himself with a gun inside the car, police said.

The 13-year-old immediately ran inside the business for help, police said. Miyell was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. No charges have been filed.
“Our hearts and thoughts go out to the Hernandez family,” said DeKalb Police Chief Mirtha Ramos in a statement. “We’re imploring gun owners to always keep their guns safe and secure.”
