UPDATE: Two Children Dead in DeKalb County Wreck

Police suspect the mother's car was smashed by two vehicles which were drag racing, according to reports.

UPDATE: Two of the three children injured in a Sunday evening car accident in DeKalb County have died.

DeKalb County police have identified the deceased children as Jordan Coleman 4, and Lauren Coleman. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jaylen Coleman, 6, remains hospitalized but is in stable condition. The children’s mother, Cazhara Lovett, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

According to WSB-TV, Lovett’s Chrysler Sebring was attempting to make a turn off of Moreland Avenue onto Constitution Road when it was plowed into by a Chevrolet Monte Carlo traveling more than 100 mph. One of the children was thrown from the vehicle and landed down an embankment.

Police told the AJC that they suspect the Monte Carlo and a Lexus which was also involved in the accident were drag racing at the time of the wreck. The drivers of both vehicles have been charged with first degree vehicular homicide and reckless driving.

ORIGINAL STORY: Three children are in the hospital after their mother’s car was involved in a wreck in DeKalb County late Sunday.

According to WSB-TV, the mother’s car was attempting to make a turn off of Moreland Avenue onto Constitution Road when it was plowed into by another vehicle traveling more than 100 mph. The children were thrown from the vehicle and landed down an embankment.

The children, aged 11, 7, and 4, were taken to different area hospitals, WSB-TV said. One of the children was reportedly in critical condition.

Police told WSB-TV that the speeding car may have been involved in a street race when it hit the children’s vehicle.
