According to WSB-TV, Michelle Powell’s electric bills had been extraordinarily high ever since she moved into the Terrace Trail condo in 2012. Fed up with inaction from Georgia Power and the state public service commission, Powell hired electrical inspectors to figure out what was causing the high power usage.

Once the inspectors discovered the rigged meter, which was supplying power to three other homes, Georgia Power began their own investigation. The utility company told WSB-TV that it would work in concert with law enforcement to discover who rigged the meter, and would ensure that Powell’s electric bills would be adjusted to charge her only for her legitimate power usage.
