Decatur Man Sentenced To Life In Prison In Fatal Double-Shooting
The man was convicted of killing a 17-year-old girl and injuring a 24-year-old man. The D.A.'s office said the girl was dating both men.
DECATUR, GA — A Decatur man was sentenced Monday to life in prison after being convicted of injuring another man and killing a teenage girl in a November 2022 shooting, DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston said Tuesday.
In a news release, Boston said Nakia Dorsey, 24, was convicted of felony murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and two counts of aggravated assault.
DeKalb Superior Court Judge LaTisha Dear Jackson sentenced Dorsey to life in prison plus 25 years to run consecutively, Boston said.

Dorsey was accused of fatally shooting Jayne Salazar-Chavez, 17, on Nov. 10, 2022, in Decatur. A 24-year-old man was injured in the shooting.
Boston said Salazar-Chavez and the man, who was in the Army, were dating at the time. The man was visiting home Veteran's Day weekend to surprise Salazar-Chavez, the district attorney said.

After the man arrived at the girl's home, Salazar-Chavez got into a car with him but was reserved, Boston said. The man demanded to see her phone after asking if she was dating another person.
The man found a text message from an unidentified number in the girl's phone, but when he called the number, he hung up the phone after the person on the other line answered the call, Boston said.
The person, who was later identified as Dorsey, called back and began arguing with the man about who was dating the girl, Boston said.
"Dorsey demanded that Salazar-Chavez return his belongings to him," read the news release.
Salazar-Chavez and the man left the home and returned around 11 p.m., when the man saw a red laser shining in his face, Boston said.
"He saw a man in black clothing walk up to the car pointing a handgun with a laser and open fire. (The man) turned the car around to leave, and the shooter continued to unload into the vehicle. In all, 20 bullets pierced the body of the car," read the release.
The man, who was shot in the leg, was able to drive to a Glenwood Road gas station and call police. Salazar-Chavez was shot in the arm and torso, Boston said. She died of her injuries.
After a number of days passed, an anonymous tip helped lead investigators to Dorsey, Boston said.
"Social media messages confirmed Dorsey was the one who had been in contact with Salazar-Chavez and cell phone location data showed Defendant Dorsey was at her home prior to the shooting," read the release.
DeKalb County Police investigated the case, and the District Attorney’s Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted it.
