Decatur Man Who Exploded Bank ATM With Pipe Bomb Indicted: DA
The man was attempting to steal a large amount of cash from the North DeKalb Mall ATM, the district attorney's office said Thursday.
DECATUR, GA — A Decatur man accused of using a pipe bomb to blow up a bank ATM at a local mall in an attempt to steal cash was indicted Wednesday, DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced Thursday.
Boston said in a news release a DeKalb grand jury indicted Abdurrahim Jalal, 53, on charges of use of destructive device with intent to destroy a structure, second-degree arson, theft by taking and manufacturing a destructive device.
The ATM was located at North DeKalb Mall. Jalal was accused of trying take a large amount of cash from the ATM on March 29. When investigators searched his home, they found multiple pipe bombs and bomb-making materials, Boston said.

A Superior Court judge will be assigned to the case, and an arraignment will be set. After arraignment, a trial date could be scheduled.
