🌱 Decatur Power Outage + New Town Green Development Plans

Hello again, neighbors! It's Friday in Decatur-Avondale Estates and I'm back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in town.

First, today's weather:

A gusty t-storm in the p.m.. High: 98 Low: 78.

Here are the top three stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:

  1. On Tuesday afternoon, during extreme heat, thousands of Decatur residents lost power. Not only did people's houses and local businesses lose power, but traffic lights stopped working for a period of time as well. The issue affected about 3,700 customers at the start of the outage. A representative from Georgia Power reported that the issue was due to an underground cable problem. The power was restored later in the evening by rerouting customers' circuits as the issue with the cable was being resolved. (Decaturish.com )
  2. The Avondale Estates Downtown Development Authority recently approved plans for a new Town Green hotel, commercial development, and townhomes at its June 14 meeting. They plan to create a beautiful commercial development of the Town Green, a boutique hotel and a townhome development that includes 11 units. The hotel will have a maximum of 81 rooms, an outdoor space for rooftop events, as well as a parking deck and retail stores for guests to visit. The hotel is also planning to be flagged by a major chain so that it gets on the national reservation system. (Decaturish.com )
  3. On Wednesday, a man was arrested in DeKalb County after shooting a mother and attempting to kidnap her child. Police arrived at a daycare in Snapfinger Park Circle, where Taco Nash, 22, had removed Mi'Ckeya Montgomery, 21, and her child from the location. After Montgomery attempted to escape, Nash fired his gun and killed her in a nearby wooded area. According to her family, Nash was the 16-month-old's father. Nash was taken into custody in the DeKalb jail with a malicious murder charge a few hours after the incident, and his child was taken to a hospital where he suffers minor injuries.
