The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Decatur-Avondale Estates.
Hey, everybody! It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Decatur-Avondale Estates Daily. Let's get this Thursday started off right, with a quick review of the most important things happening these days in town.
First, today's weather:
Hot with clouds and sun. High: 97 Low: 78.
Here are the top three stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- As summertime kicks into high gear, DeKalb County is opening libraries and recreation centers as cooling locations for all members of the public. Although the current heat advisory is coming to an end, cooling centers will be an important resource throughout the season. The National Weather Service also advises individuals to drink plenty of fluids, avoid the sun whenever possible, and check in on friends and family. (Decaturish.com)
- Dyshea Hall, a 16-year-old dancer featured on Lifetime's "Bring It!", was shot and killed outside of a Kroger shopping center in DeKalb County. Information on the investigation is limited, although it appears Hall was not involved with the shooters. It is certain, however, that her loss affects the many people who knew and loved her - both in her everyday life and through her art form. (Decatur-Avondale Estates Patch)
- On Jun. 18, 2022, several locations around DeKalb County will be giving out food in anticipation of Father's Day. Residents will receive $45 worth of Georgia fruit, vegetables, eggs, and chicken hindquarters as well as cereal and juice for children. (CBS 46 News)
