DeKalb County Deputies To Wear Body Cameras

Sixty cameras were purchased using funds the sheriff's office has confiscated.

DECATUR, GA -- DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies will soon start wearing body cameras.

Sheriff Jeff Mann announced that his office has bought 60 body cameras from Taser International for $298,000, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The money came from funds the sheriff’s office has confiscated.

“Body cameras are increasingly necessary tools of the trade,” Mann said. “They collect evidence for the prosecution of those who violate the law, provide protection to deputies and citizens, and provide a higher level of transparency and accountability to the public.”

Deputies will wear the cameras and activate them during traffic stops or other times when they interact with the public, Mann said.
