DeKalb Couple Waits 40 Minutes for Police After Calling 911

A DeKalb County couple is fuming after they say it took police 40 minutes to respond to their home after they made a 911 call on Sunday.

According to WSB-TV, Nyima Lewson and her fiance Victor Montgomery had to call 911 four times after coming home to a kicked in door and a broken back window. The couple did not enter their home, as they were fearful that a burglar could still be inside.

During the fourth call to 911 an enraged Montgomery told the dispatcher that he and his wife-to-be could be dead by the time police arrived to help them.

The fact that the two weren’t home when the alleged burglary occurred worked against them, DeKalb police spokeswoman Meeka Parish told WSB-TV. Parish said that burglaries at homes where residents are not inside are a lower priority for dispatchers. Police were responding to an armed person call, two disputes, and a domestic situation at the time of the burglary, Parish added.
