Willie Patterson, the school resource officer at Elizabeth Andrews High School, subdued a 17-year-old student with Erb’s palsy on March 4 after the student had an outburst over a bad grade. The student and her mother told WSB-TV that Patterson twisted the student’s left arm behind her back - the same arm she cannot fully use due to her condition - during the incident. The student showed the TV cameras a large bruise which she claims was a result of the incident.

Further investigation showed that Patterson has received a half-dozen other complaints of excessive force and was kicked off the DeKalb County police force after he was charged with criminal offenses after an alleged domestic dispute with his wife.

The student’s mother told WSB-TV that she wants Patterson off the school district’s police force, and wants resource officers to undergo further training on dealing with students with disabilities.
