Their effort turned concern for a beloved staff member's family into tangible aid for first responders searching for survivors.

After going viral, Reesa Teesa wants Atlanta to meet the woman behind the story (saportareport.com) — Decatur readers can look forward to meeting viral storyteller Reesa Teesa at the free Decatur Book Festival downtown on Oct. 2–3, where she'll discuss her new memoir about rebuilding after a tumultuous marriage. The 21st annual festival will also bring more than 80 authors, a Saturday street fair with 125-plus exhibitors, and a full schedule of readings and conversations.

3. Renew Your Georgia Driver's License at the Grocery Store! (majicatl.com) — Decatur drivers can now renew their Georgia licenses at the Chapel Hill Commons Kroger on Flat Shoals Parkway, using a DDS self-service kiosk while they shop. The kiosks offer a $5 discount on eligible renewals, print temporary credentials on the spot, and mail permanent cards, with numerous additional locations across metro Atlanta and nearby suburbs.

GBI Announces Promotion of Senoia Resident Brittany Scott to Manager of the GBI's Chemistry Section (thecitizen.com) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, headquartered in Decatur, has promoted Brittany Scott to manage the Chemistry Section of its state crime lab. Scott, a Georgia Tech-trained chemist who joined the GBI in 2013 and previously served as assistant manager, will now oversee daily operations and staff in the high-profile forensic unit.
