DeKalb Woman Acquitted of Murder for 2013 Shooting
Terri Williams' defense attorney was able to point out a crucial piece of evidence that derailed the prosecution's case.

A DeKalb County woman is out of jail for the first time in nearly two years after she was acquitted of murder charges for the 2013 shooting death of a woman outside an East Atlanta restaurant.
Terri Williams, 36, was accused of the murder of Charlese Brooks outside the Brickhouse restaurant on Bouldercrest Drive in October of 2013. Williams asserted she was defending herself against Brooks, who had allegedly pulled a gun on her during an argument the two were having, WSB-TV says.
During Williams’ trial, prosecutors claimed that Brooks’ gun was in her car at the time of the shooting. However, Williams’ attorney was able to show the jury an enlarged crime scene photograph which seemed to show blood on Brooks’ revolver; the attorney said the blood belonged to Brooks, claiming that it proved she had been in possession of the gun when Williams shot and killed her, WSB-TV said.

The prosecution’s star witness also contradicted her own testimony regarding the gun, WSB-TV reported, first claiming she never saw it then saying she handled the weapon after trying to resuscitate Brooks.
Williams was released from jail on Monday night.
