Hey, friends. It's Wednesday in Decatur-Avondale Estates and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on all the most important things happening locally.

First, today's weather:

Very hot. High: 100 Low: 74.

  1. The DeKalb County Animal Shelter has surpassed its maximum by almost a hundred and can no longer accept any animals. You can learn more, donate, or apply to foster here. (Decatur-Avondale Estates Patch)
  2. On Monday, Jun. 13, friends and family gathered to remember Atlanta rapper Trouble DTE at the House of Hope church in Decatur. Trouble was shot and killed on Jun. 5 after an altercation with the ex-boyfriend of a woman he was visiting. Guests at the funeral included fellow rapper Boosie Badazz, who tearfully shared memories of Trouble. (Urban Hollywood 411)
  3. The parent organizations at Briarlake Elementary recently held a town hall about teacher retention. Although the nation as a whole is experiencing a shortage of teachers, some teachers and parents attribute the poor retention rate to Principal Jamela Lewis and circulated a petition for her resignation.
