Georgia Election Results 2014: Nathan Deal Wins Governor's Race
Democrat Jason Carter was hoping for an upset, but Republican momentum drives success in statewide races.

Georgia voters headed to the polls Tuesday to decide statewide races, including selections for U.S. Senate and Georgia’s governor.
Gov. Nathan Deal, a Republican, won a second term against challenges from Democrat Jason Carter and Libertarian Andrew Hunt.
With 150 counties reporting, Deal had 54 percent of the vote to Carter’s 43 percent. Vote totals on Tuesday are not yet certified.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution noted that the governor put the power of incumbency to work in the final days of the campaign. Deal has been courting black voters in his bid for re-election, but Yahoo News notes that the voters have been skeptical.
Deal was expected to win in polls leading up to Election Day, according to analysis by Huffpost and Pollster.
