Jack and Jill Consignment Moving

Children's consignment store will relocate near Finders Keepers.

Business is good at Jack and Jill. In fact, sales are so brisk that the Avondale Estates consignment store will be relocating to larger space nearby in June.

Owner Lisa Doesburg plans to move the children's consignment store to larger space at 88 N. Avondale Rd., in the former location of Yager's Grapevine Herb Shop. When it does, it will be adjacent to xt to Finders Keepers Fashions Consignments .

“We are excited that we’re growing at a rate that we need more room,” said Doesburg. Although the store is full of product and she needs larger space, the thought of moving was scary, she added, “because you want your customers to be able to find you.”

When Bonnie Kallenberg, owner of Finders Keepers came to her with the idea of moving into the space next door, it seemed to be a “perfect fit — we’ll complement each other,” said Doesburg.  “It’s really a beautiful space and I’m excited to be moving next to Bonnie who is such a great business woman.”

The remodeled space will have a new roof, refinished floors and fresh paint. It will have plenty of room for strollers, swings, jump-a-roos, walkers and fold-up playpens as well as a designated area for toddlers to play while their moms shop.

“Eventually we’ll be carrying [children's] clothes in sizes 14-18, which are difficult to find,” said Doesburg.

“I think the economy has a lot to do with the growth of business,” said Doesburg. “More people are looking to consign and since they don’t keep the items very long we have a lot inventory in really great shape,” said Lisa.

Customers can find clothing and equipment with brand names such as Baby Bjorn, Ralph Lauren, Urbo baby carriers and Moby Wraps as well as maternity lines such as a Pea in the Pod and Mimi. Right now the store even has a tuxedo with tails to fit an eight-year old.

“Children’s clothing is something we’ve been lacking for some time, and since the Pizza Café moved and the herb shop closed, we’ve been by ourselves [near] that location,” said Kallenberg. “It will be one-stop shopping soon, for men, women and children.”

“I can’t think of a better business to have next door,” Kallenberg said. “It will be great synergy between the two stores.”
