Life Sentence For 2015 Killing of Exxon Clerk

DECATUR, GA -- A man convicted of murder for the July 2015 shooting death of a DeKalb County convenience store clerk has been sentenced to spend life in prison.

Rickey Dashun Westbrook, 25, was convicted in April on charges including murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

He has been sentenced to life without parole plus five years in prison, the DeKalb County District Attorney's office announced.

Westbrook shot and killed Harry Wells, 54, on July 13 as he manned the cash register at the Exxon at the corner of Memorial Drive and Covington Highway.

Westbrook then fled the scene, prosecutors say. He was later arrested and jailed.
