Hi all. It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Daily. Follow along for the most important things happening these days in town.

First, today's weather:

Sunshine; breezy in the p.m.. High: 92 Low: 66.

Here are the top three stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:

  1. The Avondale Estates City Commission expects the millage rate to stay the same and has not proposed a property tax increase. Public hearings on the millage rate will be held on Jun. 29 and 30 to gauge the services requested by the public and the funds necessary to meet those needs. (Decaturish.com )
  2. The DeKalb Schools has threatened a lawsuit over the Georgia Board of Education's decision to deny the Museum School of Avondale Estates a state charter. The BOE has voted 7-7 twice on this issue and will need to do so again before the Jul. 1 deadline. (Decaturish.com )
  3. DeKalb County and special units will be serving 400 warrants during Operation Safe Summer. Police have already apprehended 38 individuals, including one juvenile. Sheriff Maddox says the police are pleased with these efforts and that "peoples who commit crimes cross count lines every day - impacting everyone's safety." (On Common Ground News)
