Colombia earthquake: Decatur students collect 800 N95 masks (fox5atlanta.com) — Students and staff at Fifth Avenue Upper Elementary in Decatur rallied in just 24 hours to collect more than 800 N95 masks for Colombian earthquake responders. Led by a Spanish teacher with family in Cali and supported by the G.E.N.T.S. mentorship group, the drive showed how quickly Decatur's school community can mobilize for global crises. 
2. Columbia Theological Seminary President Victor Aloyo, Jr. to Retire (pres-outlook.org) — Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur has announced that President Victor Aloyo, Jr. will retire at the end of 2026, ending five years of locally based leadership. The seminary highlights stronger enrollment, expanded partnerships, and growing momentum as it prepares a leadership transition that will shape this long-standing Decatur institution's next century of service.
3. DeKalb CountySheriff's Office reports death of 26-year-old jail inmate (ocgnews.com) — A 26-year-old Decatur resident, Tehutihotep Hartley, died after being found unresponsive at the DeKalb County Jail, marking the facility's fourth inmate death this year. Officials say it may have been a sudden medical emergency, with no immediate signs of foul play, and promise a full investigation and transparency for the community.
4. Georgia officials rescue minor in global anti-sex trafficking raid (wsbtv.com) — State officials say a 16-year-old girl was rescued in a global anti-trafficking operation that also led to an indictment against a man identified as being from Decatur. The multi-agency effort recovered multiple missing children across Georgia and reflects ongoing statewide crackdowns on trafficking networks.
