Police: Driver Charged Who Hit Cyclist, Left Scene
Decatur Police say the suspect turned himself into police; he was reportedly driving a car that hit a bike rider on Feb. 2.

Decatur Police have charged a driver for allegedly striking a bicyclist with his vehicle and leaving the scene, according to a news release.
The incident happened about 3:14 a.m. Feb. 2 on East College Avenue at Sams Street, police say.

Witnesses told police the suspect vehicle left the area after hitting the cyclist. The suspect vehicle is silver/grey with front-end damage and missing its front bumper.
Police say the cyclist was taken to an area hospital for possible internal injuries.

On Monday, police charged Zachary Thigpen with hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident, duty to report an accident and safe distance.
The bicyclist was released from the hospital the day of the accident after being treated, authorities said.
Thigpen surrendered to Decatur Police, accompanied by his attorney, after being identified as a suspect in the incident.
