Popular Decatur Firefighter Dies at 40

Ryan Taylor was well-known for conducting fire inspections around town and public-safety seminars.

DECATUR, GA -- A well-known Decatur firefighter has passed away at age 40 from a heart attack.

City of Decatur Fire veteran Ryan Taylor died unexpectedly on Sunday, city officials told the AJC, and his funeral was Thursday in Madison, where he lived.

Taylor was popular around town, due mostly to his frequent fire-safety inspections of Decatur businesses and homes and his role conducting public-safety seminars.

He also did the landscaping at both Decatur fire stations, officials said.

Taylor began his career as a firefighter with Decatur in 2001. He is survived by a wife and four children.
