Shallowford Presby. Celebrates New Kitchen

Renovated kitchen space includes new equipment ready to serve groups of all sizes

Shallowford Presbyterian Church recently celebrated the opening of its renovated kitchen with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony attended by the congregation.

Rev. Christopher Henry, Steve Benise, task force chair; Rev. Catherine Foster, Associate Pastor; Laura Bishop, task force member; and representatives of the congregation Ed Carithers and Kirsten Abbott took part in the ribbon cutting.

The completion of the kitchen is the first phase of the $3.3 million Rooted in Faith, Forward in Hope capital campaign project begun in 2015 to expand the church’s main building and renovate key portions of the existing ministry facilities. The church is located at 2375 Shallowford Road, east of I-85 in central DeKalb County.

“Shallowford Presbyterian Church is in the midst of a season of wonderful growth and thriving ministry,” said Rev. Henry. “The renovation of our kitchen will enable us to expand on the ministries of hospitality and fellowship that are so central to the life of this church. We are delighted to have our upgraded and expanded kitchen facilities ready for action.”

Founded 58 years ago, Shallowford now has a membership of more than 900 members. The church offers programs and mission opportunities for all ages in addition to two worship services on Sundays. Popular programs include an active youth group, choirs for children, youth and adults, Bible studies, men’s and women’s groups and a Wednesday night dinner and program. The church is home to Shallowford Presbyterian School, recently celebrating its fiftieth anniversary and expanding to include both first and second grade classes in the fall of 2016.
