A murder suspect who was arrested Friday in a Boston homeless shelter is expected to be sent back to DeKalb County to face multiple charges of gang activity, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Daniel Pena, 22, is the last of nine gang suspects indicted by a DeKalb County grand jury in September to be arrested, the sheriff’s office said. DeKalb Sheriff’s investigators provided information to a U.S. Marshals fugitive task force in Boston that led to the apprehension and arrest of Pena without incident. They found him Friday morning residing at the homeless shelter.

Pena had been at large since the grand jury indicted him and eight others considered to be members of the Gangsta Disciples Hate Committee, “a gang that has plagued the community with some 45 incidents of murder, aggravated assault and gang terrorism,” the sheriff’s office said.
He’s charged with felony murder, malice murder, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, violation of street gang terrorism & prevention act, and aggravated assault, the sheriff’s office said.

Pena is expected to be extradited to DeKalb County. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 180 years in prison.
“This arrest signals a milestone in our efforts to restore safety to the community,” Sheriff Jeffrey Mann said in a statement. “Working with other agencies, our Fugitive Squad was swift to apprehend seven suspects earlier, and we have been relentless in our effort to close the page in this chapter on gang violence.”
