16 Year Old Charged With Murder In Security Guard Shooting: Police

DeKalb County police arrested and charged a 16-year-old in connection to the shooting of Henry Ashley, who died from his injuries.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — The DeKalb County Police Department announced Thursday that they have arrested a 16-year-old suspect in the shooting of a security guard.

The male teen is being charged with murder and burglary in connection with the Feb. 19 fatal shooting of 24-year-old Henry Ashley, police said. Ashley was at work at 8455 Mall Parkway in Stonecrest when he was shot in his marked work vehicle, police said. Five suspects, including the 16-year-old, drove off in a gray vehicle.

“I want to thank the community for its assistance during this investigation,” said DeKalb Police Chief Mirtha Ramos in a statement. “This arrest is another example of what happens when the community and police work together.”

Police said they received tips from the community, which led to the arrest.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrests of the four remaining suspects.
