Veterans Day Event At Decatur Cemetery To Honor Fallen
A local American Legion post and a volunteer group will host a ceremony of remembrance Saturday at Decatur Cemetery.

DECATUR, GA — One of the oldest gravesites in the region, Decatur Cemetery comprises the last resting places of veterans from every war from the American Revolution in 1776 through the most recent engagements in the Middle East. Each year, on the first Saturday in November, volunteers with Friends of Decatur Cemetery place U.S. flags on the graves of more than 1,000 veterans.
In another tradition, the group will host a ceremony of remembrance on Saturday, Nov. 11, in partnership with the American Legion Harold Byrd Post 66 in Avondale Estates.
The 11 a.m. ceremony will take place at the Veteran's Memorial Rock in Decatur Cemetery. The 54-acre cemetery is at 229 Bell St. in Decatur.
