Video: Georgia Has A Giant Alligator, Too

This massive gator was filmed at The Club at Savannah Harbor golf course in Savannah, Georgia.

SAVANNAH, GA -- Sure, Florida has the reputation for them. But a new video making the rounds online shows that Georgia has its share of humongous alligators, too.

Posted on Wednesday, the video shows Chester, a prehistoric looking monster known to inhabit the waters of The Club at Savannah Harbor golf course in Savannah, Ga.

It was shared on Facebook by Austin Swanger, the tournament coordinator at the club.

"Since everyone seems to be fascinated with the big gator in Florida that has gone viral, I present to you our big boy here in Savannah!" Swanger wrote.

He was referring to recently surfaced video of a massive gator at a golf course in Palmetto, Florida, that went viral.

That giant was estimated to be between 14-15 feet long.

So which one is bigger? We'll leave that to the eyeball test. Besides, who wants to get close enough to actually measure them?

In Swanger's video, Chester pads slowly and deliberately across what Swanger says is the golf course's first-hole green before making a right on a cart path.

"Looks like he may have eaten more than one rogue golfer," wrote one commenter on Swanger's Facebook video, which had more than 245,000 views Friday morning. "He's a big boy!!!"

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, there are roughly 200,000 American alligators in Georgia -- almost all of them living south of the "fall line" that connects Augusta, Macon and Columbus.

Male alligators can grow up to about 16 feet long, and females to about 10 feet.
