Whiskey Workshop and Tasting

Tudor Square and Watts Whiskey Distillery are hosting a Whiskey Workshop and Tasting on Friday, January 30.

Tudor Square Whiskey Workshop and Tasting

The Whiskey Workshop will be a fun night of learning and tasting whiskey from our local expert Dr Tim Watts. Tim is the founder of the Watts Whiskey Distillery which is in the process of being built-out next door to the Tudor Square Event space.

Beginning with a historical overview of how the distillation process began and it’s sociological implications, we will proceed to an all-but-hands-on review of how whiskey is made. We will review ingredients and how they are sourced and processed, fermentation and the chemistry of ethanol and flavoring compounds, the differences between stills and how they work, and the impact of barreling and aging on the final product.

We will be touching on the economics and legalities of whiskey production, folklore, myths and tall-tales. We will sample great whiskeys of the world, trying to relate them historically and geographically while, hopefully, fielding a lively question and answer session. In the end, we hope to leave you with a better understanding of what’s in your glass and an appreciation of the booming craft distillation industry. We will source samples from various countries (Irish whiskey, Scottish, Canadian, a couple of Americans, maybe a Japanese) and brands (Middleton, Lagavulin, Pendleton, Pritchards and perhaps even Yamasaki) to appreciate the differences in regional variations.
