The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Duluth.

Hello again, Duluth! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Duluth Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Duluth Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Duluth long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.
First, today's weather:
Sun and some clouds. High: 63 Low: 44.
Here are the top three stories in Duluth today:
- Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners awarded E.R. Snell Contractor $28.1M to resurface more than 100 miles of roadway this year. The Georgia Department of Transportation will fund 25 percent, while the county's portion will be covered by the 2017 special purpose local option sales tax program. According to a memorandum from the county's transportation department, E. R. Snell had the lowest bid out of two. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- Bipartisan legislation to create a new Gwinnett County State Court judge position was refiled last week with a new lead sponsor. House Bill 1499 was originally filed by state Rep. Sam Park, D-Lawrenceville, as the lead sponsor, and Reps. Chuck Efstration and Bonnie Rich as co-sponsors. However, inhouse fighting between Rep. Park and Republicans in the House stalled the bill resulting in a refiling with Efstration as the lead sponsor of the legislation. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
- Sugar Water Farm, a $4M estate in nearby Milton boasts a 2.5 acre stocked pond, two pastures with a custom chicken coop and donkey house, plus a garden with 20 raised beds. The 5-bedroom and 6-bath home, listed by Peter Marks of Method Real Estate Advisors, also has a pool, hot tub, and fire pit. The home, about 40 minutes outside of Duluth, is minutes away from Downtown Alpharetta and Roswell. (Patch)
