🌱Lawrenceville Turns 200 + Slutty Vegan Opens On Pleasant Hill Rd

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Duluth.

(Patch Media)

Happy Thursday, people of Duluth! Here's everything you need to know to get this day started. Here's everything you need to know about what's happening around town today.

First, today's weather:

Mild with clouds and sun. High: 60 Low: 50.

Here are the top stories today in Duluth:

  1. Computer sciences were seen 'Everywhere' in GCPS schools during Computer Science Week last week! Throughout the week, students participated in classroom activities, family events, "Hour of Code" challenges, drone races, cyber-competitions, and more! Check out these scenes from around the county at Harmony ES, Jones MS, Paul Duke STEM HS, South Gwinnett HS, and the First LEGOLeague Regional competition. (Press Release Desk )
  2. The City of Lawrenceville's bicentennial is here! This marks 200 years of history since Lawrenceville was incorporated as a city, coming just three years after the Georgia legislature established Gwinnett County. The county seat is believed to be the oldest city in metro Atlanta by edging out Decatur by two years. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  3. Gwinnett County is adding a second glass recycling location at Pickenyville Park! Gwinnett is trying to add more locations for glass recycling as the county's population grows. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  4. There are many political gains in Gwinnett with talk of adding two new seats to the board of commissions after the spur -of-the-moment call for nonpartisan school boards. Expansion of the board has become a hot topic surrounding the redistricting for the Gwinnett County commission in light of a surprise bill introduced by state Sen. Clint Dixon last month to expand the number of commission districts from four to nine. That effort stalled during the General Assembly's special session, but the delegation's chairman, state Rep. Sam Park said a few of the 19 Democrats in the delegation do support a smaller expansion of the commission due to anticipated population growth in Gwinnett over the next decade. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  5. The Slutty Vegan is finally here! This weekend on Saturday, December 18 from 1-6pm, the restaurant will host a grand opening event complete with a ribbon cutting by owner Pinky Cole and Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Hendrickson and a surprise celebrity guest. Slutty Vegan Gwinnett will mark Cole's fourth Slutty Vegan ATL location since launching in 2018. (QSR)
