Here are the top stories in Duluth today:
- During the midst of a decline in blood donations, the Red Cross will be holding many blood drives in Duluth in the coming weeks. There is a great need for type O blood, but all types of blood will be accepted because our hospitals are overwhelmed with patients. The blood drives in Duluth have already started, but you have until September 15 to donate. There are more dates to donate within the Atlanta Metro area. (Patch)
- One suspect has been arrested in a SWAT situation at the In-Town Motel between Norcross and Duluth. The suspect was taken out of her hotel room in handcuffs because she had a minor inside. Fox 5 reports that the child is safe. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- New Gwinnett County superintendent, Calvin Watts, has launched an online survey regarding the tour of board meetings from school to school. If you have attended a board of education meeting at your child's school or another local school, you are eligible to fill out this survey. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- After placing second in last year's competition, Gwinnett County middle-schooler from Northbrook Middle School in nearby Suwanee, Huyen Pham, has won the National School Bus Safety Poster contest. Her piece was titled, "Be Safe- Know the Danger Zone." Her work will be showcased at National School Bus Safety Week in October. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
- Gwinnett police have arrested eight locals suspected of street racing and have impounded seven cars in relation to the crime. Street racing has become more and more frowned upon in Georgia, with laws getting stricter in the Atlanta Metro area to crack down on any violators of this dangerous crime. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
