Happy Saturday, Duluth! Here are the most important things going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

Windy and colder. High: 35 Low: 19.

Here are the top three stories in Duluth today:

  1. The Duluth City Council, working with the Chief of Police, Deputy Chief, and City Attorney, overturned the requirement for billiard room owners and operators to submit to a federal background check. The officials involved concluded that the requirement, which included fingerprinting of each owner and manager, was not necessary. Background checks will continue to be required with applications for a liquor license. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. The Gwinnett Chamber announced that Sidney H. Theus, Chief Executive Officer of American Painting and Renovations, will receive the Chamber's Citizen of the Year Award at its 74th Annual Dinner on Apr. 22. Theus is being recognized for having made a significant impact on Gwinnett County's quality of life. Nick Masino, President and CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber, congratulated Theus and the other award recipients. Masino stated that the honorees are chosen based on their engagement with the community, legacy of leadership, and unique contributions that embody the Chamber's mission to champion business.
