Bites Nearby: East Pearl

A popular Chinese restaurant renowned for its fresh seafood and dim sum.

This week on Bites Nearby we take a look at Chinese restaurant that has been around since 2000 that has recently undergone renovations.

-- East Pearl specializes in Cantonese and Hong Kong cuisine. It has an extensive menu with a number of common American favorites like General Tso's Chicken, beef with broccoli, and sweet and sour pork. The restaurant also features a few exotic dishes involving duck tongue or tripe. Of course, with a name like East Pearl, you can expect a wide selection of seafood, and it is rather fresh for Atlanta. However, East Pearl is most well-known for its dim sum service.

For those not in the know, dim sum is basically like Cantonese tapas -- small plates of generally bite-size appetizers with the emphasis on intense flavor and variety. Traditionally dim sum was eaten as a light snack while taking tea. Dim sum in modern restaurants is served off of carts pushed around by servers, and guests are encouraged to grab whatever strikes their fancy. East Pearl serves dim sum from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Visit East Pearl at 1810 Liddell Lane, Duluth, GA 30096, 678-380-0899. Open Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-2 a.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-2 a.m.
