A downhome Southern-style eatery in downtown Duluth is our focus in this week's Bites Nearby.
– This restaurant has been serving hearty, affordable breakfast and lunch since 1988. The menu includes sandwiches, burgers, eggs, and biscuits, but most significantly features Southern staples like meatloaf, country fried steak, and mac and cheese. Their signature item is Broasters Chicken, breaded and cooked in a high-pressure cooker to achieve a crispy exterior like fried chicken without the adding the fat and calories the way conventional frying does. The most popular items at Family Restaurant are the $3.99 burger, fries and sweet tea combo and the $6.79 meat, 3 veggies, and dessert lunch special. Some of the meat and veggie choices change daily.
