'To Resolve or Not to Resolve?' That is the Question!

Looking for a better 2012? Jan. 1 is almost here, and people tend to make resolutions and plans when they have something to look forward to, care about, or feel passionate about...what about you?

The month of January is named after Janus, the mythical king of Roman (153 B.C.).  King Janus had two faces: He could look backward to past events and look forward into the future. So January became a time for resolutions. Hmmm…wonder if other months should have two faces as well!

Anyway, Jan. 1 is just around the corner, and people tend to make resolutions and plans when they have something to look forward to, care about, or feel passionate about. So here’s our plan of attack. After diligent on-line chatting and surfing, we learned last year’s top five resolutions:

  • Stop smoking
  • Drink less
  • Get more exercise
  • Go on a diet
  • Not to make resolutions at all – don’t even try…that sucks!

So what do you look forward to; what are you passionate about? What do you want to make happen this next year? After all, we believe you can “Make Life What You Want.” If a beautiful castle can be made of sand, what can you make of your life when you truly believe you can “Make Life What You Want”?

For us, the best resolution this coming year is simple! “Choose to be POSITIVE." We plan to fill our cups and happily exhaust ourselves with positive things. Then we won’t have room, time, or energy for the bad stuff. So every day – not just Jan. 1 – we resolve to fill our lives with three positive elements that help to make life what we want: Work Smart, Play Often, and Encourage Others.

WORK SMART: For us, working smart is about creating value and maintaining balance. We work where we believe we have positive value, and we find we do a much better job! And having our own business allows us to maintain balance, in that we have the luxury of being able to mix all three of our positive elements into our lifestyle as often as possible.

PLAY OFTEN: All living things move, and since we want to continue to enjoy the spirit of youth, we plan to move a lot, and maybe wiggle a bit too!

To help us move, first we change the word exercise to the positive word “Play." Play options are endless. Our personal list includes tennis, dancing, gym, walking, hiking, and bike riding.

Then we make a “date” with each other or with someone else to meet at the gym or on the tennis courts. Not only do we feel “committed” to meet as planned (even when busy or tired!) but we also encourage each other and look forward to the next time.

ENCOURAGE OTHERS: We always choose to promote the positive side of life by writing articles and creating images and videos of business achievement, positive events, people of positive influence and places that support positive lifestyles. And of course, covering these positive life moments just makes us feel better too…everyone wins!

On the personal side, we spent a lot of years looking for each other, and now that we are together, we find value encouraging each other by re-exchanging our wedding vows every morning…this daily resolution just seems to work for us.

Ok, ok…now it’s your turn. You probably already figured out that 95% of your ongoing daily conversations are actually with yourself. Point is, you’re going to have to talk it over and promote it with yourself to be successful at your resolution. So, carefully choose the resolution you promote. With enough passion, you just might turn it into a lifestyle..and this time, a resolution you keep!
