There is so much to relate about the exciting progress on the Knox Family Cabin, believed to be over 190 years old and possibly the oldest dovetailed cabin in Gwinnett County.
Last November, the Gwinnett Historical Restoration and Preservation Board approved a motion supporting the preservation of the Knox Family Cabin. We have been working with the Gwinnett officials on this project since that time.
The cabin structure is currently being dismantled and loaded onto trailers. Several artifacts dated circa 1790-1820 have been recovered and we have also discovered a connection between the Knox family and an American president!
There will be a Duluth Historical Society open meeting on Tuesday, August 25, at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Duluth to discuss the progress and to show off the artifacts. Please join us to learn more about this exciting project. The church is located at 2908 Duluth Hwy 120, Duluth, GA 30096.
Many thanks to everyone who volunteered and attended the Duluth Heritage Day and Open House that was held at the Depot on June 20! It was lots of fun to visit with original Duluth families and our many friends and neighbors. Please visit the Depot museum to see the new lighting upgrades and new historical exhibits.
Hope to see you on Tuesday,
Candace Morgan, president, Duluth Historical Society
