SUV Hits Sign, Strikes Front of Duluth Taco Bell (Updated)

The driver was taken to the hospital Thursday morning.

The driver of an SUV was injured after crashing the vehicle through a sign and striking the front of a Taco Bell near Gwinnett Place Mall Thursday morning.

The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. on Pleasant Hill Road near Satellite Boulevard in Duluth.

The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in an email.

According to the 911 caller, the SUV hit a sign and slipped several times before coming to rest at the front entrance of the restaurant, Rutledge said.

“The vehicle hit a decorative pillar at the entrance to the building and caused only cosmetic damage to the exterior wall,” Rutledge said. “There was no major structural damage reported and no actual damage inside the restaurant itself.”

A small gas leak from the vehicle was quickly controlled.

The name of the driver has not been released. Gwinnett Police are investigating what caused the accident.
