Deadly Crash on Buford Hwy + Potential Solutions to I-85 Traffic

Up and at 'em, Duluth! Let's get you all caught up to start this Tuesday off on an informed note. Here's everything going on in town today.

Here are the top stories today in Duluth:
- A 29-year-old local man is critically injured after a one-vehicle wreck that happened on Sunday on the Athens Perimeter. The man is currently being held in Piedmont Athens Hospital as he recovers from his injuries after the car hit a guard rail and flipped over upside down. He is thought to be one of two victims that were ejected from the vehicle. (Online Athens)
- For the 20th year in a row, Gwinnett County has received AAA/Aaa bond ratings from all three rating agencies. These ratings are considered the top ratings for bonds, meaning that residents can be assured their county is spending their money in a conservative and responsible way. (Gwinnett County)
- A deadly wreck shut down Buford Highway in Gwinnett for nearly three hours on Monday morning. So far, only one person has been found dead, but many cars were involved in the wreck that closed both directions of traffic on the five-lane highway. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- The Gwinnett County Department of Transportation is seeking solutions for traffic in our area on I-85. Finalizations are a few years away but we can expect a few more toll roads, improvements to roads surrounding the interstate, more walking paths, and more bike lanes. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- The new police chief, J.D. McClure, has now taken office as being the now 4th chief our police department has seen in 30 years. He hopes to build a trusting relationship with the Gwinnett community, including our Duluth community, in order to lower the rate of violent crimes. As a former Gwinnett officer himself, he also praises the officers we have in our community calling them the best in the country. Gwinnett County sits at a higher than average rate for clearing homicide cases. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- The Gwinnett-Newton-Rockdale health department is now offering the COVID-19 vaccine booster shot to those who are considered immunocompromised. This shot is only offered to those that have received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
