Morning, people of Duluth! It's me again, Lyndsay Kendall Oxley, your host of the Duluth Daily.

Are you a local business owner or marketer in Duluth? Our premium local sponsorships will keep you at the top of inboxes around town every morning. Contact us here for the lowdown.

First, today's weather:

Partly cloudy throughout the day. High: 76 Low: 54.

Here are the top stories in Duluth today:

  1. Gwinnett County water source employee, Constantin George Bolof, who was directing traffic on Thursday, was hit by a car driven by a drunk driver who drove away and fled the scene. Bolof passed away from injuries related to this crime. The driver, Thomas Burke, was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide, hit and run, and driving under the influence of alcohol. (WSB Atlanta)
  2. The Gwinnett Coalition is holding its county-wide annual donation event to benefit 31 metro Atlanta nonprofits. Called Great Days of Service, the organization collected and donated over 100,000 items to those in need in 2020. There are still 14 non-profits that are without a collector. If you are interested applications are still being taken! ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. The Atlanta Humane Society is set to reopen its Duluth location on Satellite Boulevard today and will be holding adoptions every Saturday from 12 PM- 4PM. It was closed for a while because of staffing issues, and other issues surrounding COVID-19. It is still accepting job applications, so get involved if you are interested! (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  4. The Gwinnett County School District has launched a new dashboard on its website to track COVID-19 cases in schools. The new dashboard is different from what was in place in that it breaks down the day-by-day caseloads from school to school. The mask mandate will continue to stay in place, and the school district is following CDC guidelines for if and when we can return to school without them. (WSB Atlanta)
  5. Come on out this weekend to Parson's Square to enjoy the local arts and crafts, the beautiful fall weather, and have the time of your life at the Duluth Fall Festival. There is a lot of hype surrounding this year's event because it was cancelled last year. Every year at the festival, there are live music events, carnival rides, local artists, and food. I know we are all excited for this event to kick off the Fall season in Duluth! (Gwinnettdailypost.com)'

Update from yesterday's newsletter: I accidentally left out the name of Miss Gwinnett yesterday. her name is actually A'Leah Burrell, and she was the one crowned at the Gwinnett County fairgrounds. Chyann was the recipient of the $1,500 scholarship. My apologies.
