Hello again, Duluth! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Duluth Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Duluth Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Duluth long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny and beautiful. High: 73 Low: 48.
Here are the top three stories today in Duluth:
- Asia Thomas is the first Black woman to own a Subway franchise in Duluth. Thomas is an entrepreneur and also a mother of three. According to Thomas, she was working at a corporate job but when the pandemic hit, she was unable to go to work in person. Looking to make extra money, a Black woman who already worked for Subway encouraged Thomas to look into owning a franchise. Thomas now has plans to buy even more. (BlackEnterprise.com)
- There are many great businesses in Duluth, especially ones run by women! Crave Pie Studio can be found in Downtown Duluth, owned by Briana Carson. They also have a second location in Alpharetta. Crave Pie offers a variety of 5" mini pies each day and a limited number of 10" signature flavor pecan and chess pies. (Patch)
- The Water Tower, a new research and workforce development center focused exclusively on the water industry, is now open in Buford, about 15 minutes outside of Duluth. The new center, aptly located at 2500 Clean Water Court, includes a co-working space for engineering firms and labs for research. There are also plans to host job trainings at The Water Tower, according to CEO Melissa Meeker, who hopes "more people will consider working in the field." (WABE)
