Pete and Maura Kennedy, veterans of twenty years on the road as a duo and as members of Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra, celebrate two decades, not by looking backward in a nostalgic way, but instead by charging forward with thirty eight new songs, spread over three CDs. “West” is a classic sounding Kennedys duo offering that pays tribute to their influences; Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, Gram and Emmylou and The Byrds, with new songs written by Pete and Maura in those timeless styles. Maura’s project is a collaboration with California poet B. D. Love, in which she transformed his work into songs, matching her melodies to the original poem structures. The result, songs in sonnet and other poetic forms, is unique and beautiful. Pete’s solo project is a rocking tribute to the duo’s hometown, the East Village in New York City, recalling the great songwriting days of the 1970’s in New York, their are moments that recall Garland Jeffreys, Patti Smith, early Steve Forbert and pre-stardom Springsteen. This is a rare Kennedys GA appearance, in the intimate setting of the Red Clay Music Foundry.
