🌱 Civil Protest Bill Passes + Gwinnett Joins Welcoming Network

Here are the top three stories today in Duluth:
- In response to protests that turned violent during the summer of 2020, Republicans passed a bill in the Senate that tightens government controls over civil protests. The Georgia bill would require a government permit for street protests and punish cities and protesters when rallies turn violent. Christopher Bruce of the American Civil Liberties Union said that the bill, expected to pass in the House, goes too far. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- The Gwinnett Parks and Recreation is hosting its annual Quince Girl Expo on Sunday at the Best Friend Park Gym in Norcross, about 15 minutes outside of Duluth. Local event professionals will share their expertise with families planning their daughter's Quinceanera. A fashion show featuring the latest design trends will be sponsored by Miss International Grand Latina and Miss Quince Boutique. (Patch)
- In an effort to promote inclusion toward immigrants, Gwinnett County has joined the Welcoming Network, an international association of more than 300 local governments and nonprofits working towards building more inclusive communities. "Foreign-born residents are a vital part of our community," said Commission Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. Gwinnett County is the second-largest and most diverse county in Georgia. - Looking for some live entertainment just outside of Duluth? '90s bands Marcy Playground, Spin Doctors, Everclear and Vertical Horizon will be performing their hit songs and more at the Peachtree Corners' summer concert series this year. The bands are slated to play between May and October. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
- Maxwell High School of Technology students recently designed and produced camera mounts used by the multi-jurisdictional special response team of Lilburn, Sewanee and Duluth. Investigator Cory Belcher explained that Maxwell reached out to him in response to his Facebook post asking for assistance in placing video cameras on already crowded helmets. (CBS 46 News)
- Gwinnett County Public Schools Mentoring Program will host its 12th Annual Golf Tournament on March 28 at Bear's Best Atlanta in Suwanee. All proceeds will fund college visits, scholarships, educational field trips, internships and more. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
