Check out the latest edition of the Duluth Daily! This is your five-minute guide to the most important things going on in town.

(Patch Media)

Happy Wednesday, people of Duluth! Let's get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

Times of clouds and sun. High: 70 Low: 51.

Here are the top stories in Duluth today:

  1. Local elections are upon us! A few Gwinnett County cities are voting for mayor, while others are only voting for city council members. In Duluth, our current mayor, Nancy Harris, will be keeping her seat while city council members have elections. Posts 1 and 2 are running unopposed, but posts 3 and 4 are up for grabs. To find out more about our incumbents and those who are opposing them, you can visit the city's website to help guide your decision. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. If you haven't heard yet, some gold medal Olympians were in town this week! On Monday, Simone Biles posted some cute photos of her hanging out in Parson's Alley on her Instagram. Yesterday, she made her appearance with other all-star gymnasts at the Gas South District. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. Have you ever heard of mochi donuts? Mochi is made with very glutenous rice flour, and Mochibees has made it into delectable chewy donuts! Mochibees is Duluth's newest pastry shop that opened last weekend, and it is Atlanta's first brick-and-mortar shop to sell mochi donuts. It is already planning a second location, and another franchise is already looking to build around the metro area. Come on over and enjoy the donuts! (Atlanta Magazine)
  4. Gwinnett school board is partnering with Gwinnett County legislature and Reapportionment Office to re-draw the school districts based on last year's Census. Gwinnett County's population grew by 19% since 2010 and the law says that it must redraw the single-board member district boundaries so each has an equal number of constituents plus or minus 1%. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  5. A Canton teacher, Robert Vandel, has been arrested on charges of rape and aggravated child molestation. His victims are all over the state, and Duluth is one of the cities he allegedly impacted. The GBI also believes there may be many other victims. (WJBF)
