(Patch Media)

Good morning, people of Duluth! It's me again, Lyndsay Kendall Oxley, your host of the Duluth Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mild with plenty of sunshine. High: 68 Low: 43.

Here are the top stories today in Duluth:

  1. The Gwinnett police office is now the first agency in the state of Georgia to obtain rare accreditation "Tri-Arc" status from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc.(CALEA). The Tri-Arc status means it has now added accreditations for communications and the department's training academy. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  2. Atlanta developer, Southeast Capital Land, is creating a walkable residential project near Central Gwinnett High School. The plan would include 65 townhomes and 27 single-family homes on about 15 acres of land at the intersection of West Crogan Street and Gwinnett Drive. The City of Lawrenceville will take a vote on this in December. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. A Georgia Gwinnett College criminal justice professor has been busted for felony shoplifting. This took place in a Target on November 22, which also happened to be the last day of final exams at GGC. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  4. Today, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is bringing its popular wrestling brand to the Gas South Arena with an arena full of fans. This brings back a lot of excitement for the sport, as this is one of the first shows to have fans in the stadium. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  5. Gwinnett County is going to open five warming stations around the county for those in need as temperatures are expected to plummet over the next few weeks. The closest one to us can be found at Shorty Howell Park from the hours of 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. (11Alive.com WXIA)

Today in Duluth:

From my notebook:

  • City of Duluth: Whelp...Cricket the Elf decided to take a break from Deck the Hall planning over the holiday weekend and caused a bit of trouble at City Hall. Our security cameras caught him toilet papering the lobby, adding a few embellishments to the photo of Mayor Harris and decorating the office of our Marketing Coordinator....Now that he is back to his official duties, is anyone available to help us clean up this mess? • Duluth Police Department: During the Thanksgiving holiday period, Colonel Carruth and Captain Bava visited Officer Porter's family to drop off some tasty meal items to alleviate the stress of cooking for Thanksgiving. Along with the meal items, they gave Officer Porter's wife a check in the amount of $3,500, which were some of the proceeds from the Duluth Rotary Car Show. The proceeds were given to 'Operation One Voice' and then given to help Officer Porter and his family during his lengthy recovery. (Facebook)
  • Georgia Gwinnett College: Dr. Jann Joseph would like to have lunch with you!⁣ ⁣ Join President Joseph and your fellow Grizzlies for a holiday celebration in the dining hall on Dec. 9.⁣ ⁣ Email president@ggc.edu to register by Dec. 2.⁣ ⁣ (Instagram)
