Merely Players Debuts with Award-Winning Drama "Proof"

Duluth resident Joanie McElroy directs this intense drama at Out of Box Theatre

Fifteen years after its award-winning Broadway debut, Proof, is one of America’s favorite dramas. In

2001, the play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play. This compelling drama, is the debut of new theatre company, Merely Players, and will open on January 8 for an eight-show run.

“I’m thrilled to bring together some of our best local dramatic actors for our production of Proof,” said Joanie McElroy, the play’s director founder of Merely Players. “This is such a compelling, modern story that I know Atlanta play-goers will love it.”

In Proof, written by David Auburn, the daughter of a brilliant, but mentally disturbed mathematician, fears she may have inherited his gift – his lack of sanity. The recently deceased father’s other daughter and former graduate student enter the scene complicating matters.

“This play explores the complexities of family love and loyalty,” said McElroy.
