Here are the top stories in Duluth today:
- The Gwinnett County Public School district is now seeking mentors for the 2021-22 school year. If you would like to be involved in making a different in a students' life, the application is currently open on the district's website. However, you must be able to pass a criminal background check and you must undergo fingerprinting. (Press Release Desk )
- After two Gwinnett County inmates recently died mysteriously in the prison last month, Gwinnett County and the State of Georgia began investigating. Those two deaths brought the prison death toll up to 26 lives lost in Georgia prisons. Because of this, the federal government is now getting involved by launching a civil rights probe into the Georgia prisons, with our local prison being a top priority. (WSBTV)
- Duluth resident, Tara Shiphof, was recently crowned Miss Macon and is on her merry way to compete for the Miss Georgia title. - After taking a year off because of COVID-19 restrictions, the beloved Gwinnett County Fair will return starting today and lasting through September 26. Everyone is expecting this year's crowd to be fairly large due to the hype around getting back to "normal."(Gwinnettdailypost.com)
- On Tuesday, traffic was halted on our side of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard because of a major crash that injured four people including an officer and left one person in critical condition. The officer that was involved is no longer in the hospital, and says that he believes that the driver that caused the crash was under the influence. (CBS46 News Atlanta)
