Join the OTC Comedy Troupe for our annual Angst Giving Comedy Feast on Friday, November 18th starting at 8:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation (UUCG) in Lawrenceville, GA. Join the group as we poke fun at Thanksgiving dinners, Black Friday, and those annoying relatives that will still want to talk politics at the dinner table. The OTC uses the art of improv to create scenes on the spot with suggestions supplied by audience members. Some scenes actually ask the audience to come on stage and be part of the show.
"We have a few new players for this show along with some of our regulars as well as some of our signature pieces like Family Dinner, ABC News and Half-Life," explains OTC Artistic Director Kelley Cody-Grimm. “UUCG is where we started 11 years ago so it’s nice to come full circle and perform here. Our shows are also rated PG13 - which makes us one of the few improv companies in Atlanta that allow audience members under the age of 18 to watch our shows.”
“So often, people think that theater can be stuffy,” Cody-Grimm continued, “but I like to think of improv as ‘pre-theatre’ – you get people to attend and see the actors on stage with an audience and all the sudden the idea of attending a scripted performance does not seem all that daunting. I remember one time we did a family show for smaller kids and one little girl came up to me afterwards and said – ‘That was fun and I’m not afraid of a dark theatre anymore!’ - that remark still makes me smile.”

The OTC Comedy Troupe is now in its eleventh year and has performed for over 300,000 audience members both live and on-line. Additionally, the OTC has hosted members of other improv troupes from around Atlanta including performers from Dad’s Garage and Laughing Matters. This show will include appearances from the actors of High Wire Comedy Company. “It’s important to me that the OTC reach out and invite other comic actors to our stage. Atlanta is a premiere improv town and the fact that other company members get to play with different groups helps keep the whole Atlanta’s comedy improvisation theater scene viable. What I love is that the improv community is all about collaboration over competition which is why Atlanta is rated as one of the funniest cities in America,” stated Cody-Grimm.
The show lasts about two hours with a 15 minute intermission. The tickets are discounted to $8 per person.
